Karen took this
shot from our balcony at 3:30 am. This is about an hour before sunrise. Luke,
from the B&B was in the backyard using a broom to chase away a porcupine. A lot
goes on around here at 3:30am. Carla slept through it all or at least had the
good sense to stay in bed. |

Juneau averages
54 days of sunshine per year. We were lucky enough to have sunny weather so we
headed out the road. Juneau has only a 40 mile stretch of highway. The north
end of the highway is Bridget Point. This is a view from the nearby Bridget
Cove. The beautiful purple lupine are in bloom. There are sea ducks and geese
on the shore. To get to the cove, we hiked though a stand of old-growth spruce and
hemlock. The mountains in the distance are the Chilkats. On the other side of
the mountains is Glacier Bay. |

The Shrine of
St. Therese is on a tiny island north of Juneau. It is a beautiful little chapel.
There are stations of the cross on the grounds that look like they are carved from
ivory. There are signs asking visitors to be quiet and respectful as the site is
used for worship and meditation. Of course, the dozen or more ravens hanging around
the chapel can't read the signs. They fly around the trees making a raucous racket
and dive bombing the visitors. |

Karen took this
pretty picture of Auke Lake. The University of Alaska campus lies around the lake.

Karen took this
shot while Carla took a nap in the car. She says those little naps help.
Although we have seen eagles on Douglas and Admiralty Islands, there is no shortage of
them hunting in the Juneau area. There is even a bald eagle who has made the Juneau
airport home. |

Carla woke up
and was ready to play in the fall. She is under there picking up more rocks.
As usual, she will be shipping home a box of rocks. |

With the sunny
weather, everyone in Juneau was ready to play. From the number of cars on the road
and boats on the channel it looked like everyone had called in sick to work. |
