MONIX was founded in 1983 as an informal club of scanner enthusiasts, shortwave listeners, DXers, and others who share an interest in the hobby of radio monitoring. MONIX is a full spectrum/all mode club covering all aspects of radio monitoring from DC to Daylight. MONIX covers the Cincinnati/Dayton Metropolitan Area, Southwestern Ohio, Southeastern Indiana and Northern Kentucky. MONIX is a free club, there are NO dues to pay. Anyone, anywhere may join us, but we mostly benefit those hobbyists in the Cincinnati/Dayton area.

MONIX NEWS

The DIGITAL SCANNER TEAM Meetings are now meeting at Diane's Deli,
11100 Winton Road, (just south of Sharon Road) in the cafeteria of the American
Legion Hall. Meetings are every Tuesday at 12:00 Noon. Talk-in on 146.880 -
CFMC Greenhills Repeater.

The next MONIX meeting will be on Saturday May 10, 2008. Meetings are held
at the LNCB, 425 West Central Ave (SR73) in Springboro, Ohio (Exit 38 off I-75).

1.   On Saturday April 12th, the 127th Airlift Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard based at
        Selfridge Air Force Base northeast of Detroit changed it's mission from flying C-130s to flying
        jet powered KC-135s. They are now designated as the 127th Air Refueling Wing. FULL STORY

2.    Some members have inquired about where to purchase the Uniden BCD-396T in this area.
       The only place we can think of and highly recommend is The Hobby Stop in Kettering.
       In most cases Norm Schrein offers an "out the door" cash discount.

3. Most of the units in Montgomery County dispatched by or using Montgomery County Sheriff
Office talkgroups are now indentified by who they are. For example:

Butler Township PD unit is: Butler 331, Riverside PD is Riverside 331 and so on.
The alpha-numeric unit id system is almost completely phased out.

4. Howard - KB8ALM reports having a screw loose....literally on his PSR-500 handhelds.

       "Today, when I picked up my PSR-500s, I heard what sounded like a little ball bearing rolling
        around in the scanner. After removing the battery pack I noted that a silver screw had
        dropped into that compartment. Removed the back (4 black screws) and saw that the
        screw on the board near the inside of the BNC connector was missing, so it got replaced.

        Then just for GP's, I checked the tightness of that screw in the other PSR-500, and sure
        enough it was pretty loose. So anyone with a PSR-500 might check to see if you
        have a screw loose.

        "Yea, I know, anyone who spends $500 for a scanner just might be a little loose.
        Glad the screw did not contact any of the electronics when the scanner was turned on,
        could short something out and destroy it."

5.    Bethel Township Fire Department in Clark County has received an $85,850.00 grant from the
       2007 Assistance to Firefighters program. The money will be used to install a new 800MHz radio
       system. The new radio system will improve communications with other area fire departments that
       are currently on 800MHz and will maintain communication capabilities with fire departments that
       are still on the VHF bands. Money from Homeland Security programs will also help pay for the
       $356,567.00 new radio system.

6.    The Kentucky National Guard appear to be upgrading their radio system which involves about 50 different
       Armories throughout the Commenwealth. Keep a watch on the following frequencies and please let us
       know what you hear, all appear to be APCO-25 mode:

AREA RADIO MONITORING NETS

The MONIX Shortwave and Scanner Listener`s Information Net takes place Thursday evenings at 9:30 PM local time on the 145.230/4.630 W8PRH Repeater (Fairfield Amateur Radio Association). It is an open net and all check-ins are welcome, if you can`t check-in, then you can listen in on your scanner. Check in and let us know what you are hearing! 145.390 is the backup repeater when the 23 machine is down. Due to lack of operators for Net Control, the net is on a catch as catch can basis. We may be on, we may be not. If you might be interested in becoming a net control station for the net, please
contact me (Mark Meece).

We also suggest you check in and listen in to the All Ohio Scanner Club's Scanner and Shortwave Listeners' Net held every Monday evening at 9:30 pm on the 146.940 (123.0 PL) W8BI repeater in Dayton.
