"GIVE ME THE BIBLE" PSALMS 119:1-5 By Glen Murphy Introduction:: We want to suggest in the outset of our lesson that we have standards in just about everything that we do in life, and I want to further suggest that most of our standards came from instructions from God. Let us notice some of the standards that we use today. I Our standard of measurements: Twelve inches equal one foot; Thirty six inches equals one yard., 2.Our standard of weights; Sixteen ounces equals one pound, 2000 pounds equals one ton; 3.Our standard in moneys; Five pennies equals one nickle, Five nickles equals one quarter, four quarters equals one dollar. We accept all of these standards. 4.We suggest that The Almighty God has given us a standard in religion, that being the Bible, We further suggest that if the Bible is not our standard in religion, then we do not have a standard. (I).SO LET US LOOK AT THE BIBLE BEING OUR STANDARD: A.The word Bible has been translated from the Greek word, Biblia, or Bivlos meaning Book; Hebrews 10:7. 1 .We need to study our duties toward the Bible. B.The Bible is the most widely published, and circulated, of any book; In full or part it has been translated into more than 1,000 languages and dialicts. The Bible stands alone, great in it's solitude, and solitary in it's greatness. C.About forty men wrote the Bible during a period of 1600 years; This begun from around 1500 B.C. to A.D. 100. D.These men wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit; 2 Peter 1:16-21. E.They wrote not in words of human wisdom, but in words Divinely taught; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13. F.The Bible holds the distinction of being the first printed Book; G.The First Bible printed in this Country was supposed to be in Indian Language in 1663; This translation was made and published by John Elliot, the so called apostle to the Indians. H.The first English Bible printed in this Country was in the year of 1782. I. The First translation of the New Testament published in America was printed in 1826 by Alexandria Cambell. It first appeared under the title of, Sacred Writings, Later, Living Oracles.. J.The King James version of the Bible was published in 1611. (II).BUY THE BIBLE: A.Here we suggest that once knowing the Truth, Never compromise The Truth: Proverbs 23:23; Matthew 13:44. B.The Apostle Paul while teaching in a school of one Tyrannus Acts 19:6; Many books were burned; Many today need the same treatment; Acts 19:13-20. l.Everyone needs a copy of the Bible; The Bible alone gives God's Plan of Salvation to all man-kind. 2.Each person in every Family need's their own Bible to study.; It is better to buy Bibles than to pay fines. 3 .We suggest that everyone needs a good Bible, a good concordance, and also a good dictionary. (III).INVESTIGATE THE BIBLE: A. Jesus urged the Jews to search the Bible: John 5:39; B.Paul Admonished The Young Preacher Timothy To Read and Study The Scriptures: 2 Timothy 2:15; C.Luke was inspired to say that searching the scriptures was a sign of spiritual Nobality; Acts 17: 10-11.. D.Peter urges all Christians: 2 Peter 3:15-18; E.Paul Again Admonished The Young Preacher Timothy; I Timothy 4:12-13; See Psalms 1:1-6.. F.lgnorance Of The Bible Seprates One From The Almighty God; Ephesians 4:17-18; Romans 10:1-4. G. Knowledge Of God keeps one from sin: Psahns 119:11; 37:31; 1 John 3:8-9. H. Knowledge of God Influences One to Salvation; (IV).ONE NEEDS TO BELIEVE EVERY WORD OF THE BIBLE: A.Jesus taught His Disciples in the sermon on the mount the importance of every Jot, and Tittle of God's Word the Bible. Matthew 5:17-19; B.One canno't believe God, and refuse His word The Bible; John 3:1-8; 20:30-31; C. One must not be ashamed of God and His word the Bible; Romans 1:16-17; Mark 8:38. (V).ONE MUST LEARN TO LOVE GOD'S WORD THE BIBLE: A. If one does not learn to love God's Word the Bible, Then a strong delusion will follow from God; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-13; ISAIAH 66:14 B.Jesus explains what takes place when one reveives a strong delusion; Matthew 13:13-17; C.Jobn shows how to truly love the Bible; I John 5:1-4; John 14:15,23; 15:10. D.The Apostle Paul warns man-kind about preaching another Gospel; Galatians 1:6-12; 2 Corinthians 4:1-5 (VI).ONE MUST EXEMPLiFY THE BIBLE: A.We must show it in our lives: 2 Corinthians 3:1-2; Matthew 5:13-16; CONCLUSION 1 TIMOTHY 4:12.
